Mary Gannon Gunn died May 14, 2018. She was born June 11, 1946, the eldest daughter of Uly Samuel Gunn II and Margarett Kallmeyer Gunn Wilson, both of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Robert Russell Gunn II and her sister, Margarett Ruth Gunn Dure.
She attended Athens High School and graduated from All Saints' Episcopal School in Vicksburg, Mississippi a member of the class of 1964. She attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Her career as a business communications specialist began at Southern Bell in Atlanta, Georgia in 1968. Later promoted to the position of Business Communications Manager at American Telephone and Telegraph, she relocated to the corporate headquarters in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Returning to her beloved home of Athens in 1995, she retired from AT&T in 1998. She enjoyed a second career as a housemother for several sororities at the University of Georgia in the early 2000s, including Delta Zeta and Alpha Omicron Pi.
Mary Gannon was a member of the Junior Ladies Garden Club, and a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of Georgia, Athens Town Committee. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her sister, Page Gunn Pate (Randy), Athens; sister-in-law, Brent Shuford Gunn, Macon; niece Margarett Gunn McGriff McIntosh (William), Savannah; nephews, Frank Booker McGriff, Athens, Uly Samuel Gunn Ill (Jenny), Atlanta, and Robert Shuford Gunn (Emily), Asheville, NC.
A memorial gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at the Oconee Hill Cemetery's Sexton's House.
