
He was born in Elberton, Georgia and was the son of the later Robert Lee Cauthen, Sr. and Monte Watson Cauthen and was preceded in death by his wife Jane Crane Cauthen. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Mr. Cauthen was a graduate of Athens High School and attended the University of Georgia. He owned and operated R. L. Cauthen Real Estate Company for many years until his retirement. He was a lifetime Kiwanian and former president of the Thomson Kiwanis Club. Mr. Cauthen was also past president of the Athens Board of Realtors, the first Knox Homes salesman in Thomson and was the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens.
Survivors include daughter Blanche Cauthen Brumley and husband Frank of Charleston, SC; son Robert L. Cauthen III of Athens; grandchildren Christopher Cauthen, Rebecca Williams and husband Mike, Van Noy Smith, Kathleen Crawford Smith, Frank Warner Brumley Smith, Blanche Brumley Kronzer, Hayes Cauthen Kronzer, Benjamin Wagner Kronzer, Davis Crane Hamann and Anna Kate Hamann.
Graveside services will be 11am Monday, June 25th at Oconee Hill Cemetery with Dr. Glenn Doak officiating. The family will greet friends in the Sexton House immediately following the service.
