He was a native and lifetime citizen of Athens. He attended Clarke Central High School where he excelled in athletics and was a part of the 1979 state and national championship team. After high school he enlisted into the United States Army and served there and later served in the Army reserves. He worked as part of the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government streets and drainage crew for over 15 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter and sportsman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard R. Lewis Sr. and Anna Lewis; and his brother, Howard R. Lewis Jr. (Sandy).
He is survived by his loving wife, Stacy (Warwick) Lewis of 39 years; son, Jeffrey (Melissa) Lewis, along with grandchildren, Raymond (Paxton) Lewis and Payton Ann Lewis.
A memorial service for Mr. Lewis will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel, 3195 Atlanta Hwy., Athens, Georgia 30606. The family will receive friends following the service.
