

Ron was born on May 23, 1943, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Edward and Dorothy Mahefkey. Ron was a true renaissance man who constantly sought to learn and master new experiences. He was a PGA Golf Professional for 30 years, teaching many people to play golf. And was a member of the PGA for 57 years. He worked as a club pro for over 30 years, beginning his head pro career at Union Town Country Club in Union Town, PA. In 1972, Ron moved his family from Pennsylvania to Georgia to be the head pro at Bent Tree in Jasper, GA. In 1974, he and his family moved to Gainesville, GA where he was the Vice President of Golf and Tennis at PineIsle Resort on Lake Lanier Isles for 18 years. He then moved to Athens, in 1992, where he established Target Golf.
While golf was his profession, horses, were his passion. As a boy, Ron started golf caddying so that he could afford the upkeep of his horse. As an adult, Ron competed in reining shows and won numerous awards. While living at Lake Lanier, Ron became a competitive water skier and was also a Porsche enthusiast. Over the years, he enjoyed refurbishing vintage foreign cars.
Ron was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Athens and also felt a spiritual connection at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, GA.
Ron was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Ann Dittmer Mahefkey. He committed the last 19 years of his life to ensure Ann's comfort and care. Ron was a loving father to Brad Mahefkey and Chris (Allen) Bone. He was also a proud grandfather to Lucy Bone and Phoebe (Adam) Livingston.
Ron is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Tom Mahefkey.
A ceremony to honor Ron's life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 1:00 at Honey Creek Woodlands, 2625 Highway 212 SW, Conyers, GA 30094.
Ron will be remembered for his love of playing the guitar, singing and writing country songs about his life, family and friends. He also enjoyed the outdoors, music, art, cowboy poetry, and his competitive spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the PGA Foundation, AQHA Foundation, American Cancer Society, or the Monastery of the Holy Spirit.
