Sharon Calhoun Brogdon
1 February, 1948 – 10 May, 2021
Sharon Calhoun Brogdon was born in Valdosta, Georgia on February 1, 1948 to Mr. and Mrs. John Cecil Calhoun.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Cecil Calhoun and Foye Keaton Calhoun.
Sharon met her soulmate, Joseph Brogdon, and married him on July 22, 1966. They shared fifty-five years of a beautiful life together. Sharon and Joseph have provided the ultimate model of a loving marriage built in Holy matrimony honoring the Lord and the vows they shared at a small church in Naylor, Georgia so many years ago.
Those that knew Sharon know she had a love for socializing and gathering with family and friends. She lived an active social life as a member of a bridge group that became a close-knit group of friends for over thirty years that not only played bridge but traveled and celebrated special occasions together. Sharon also enjoyed her book club meetings with friends. Most of all, she loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. They were always greeted with the biggest smile and the warmest hugs!
Sharon was a member of the Industrial Development Board of Morgan County. She served in multiple service leagues as a volunteer. As a young adult, Sharon loved playing tennis and played on Alta teams. She had an amazing love for animals, specifically horses and dogs. Her passion for horses grew into a long-time hobby of riding hunt seat and western in shows and for fun. Sharon’s love for dogs evolved into breeding Welsh Corgis.
Sharon was a graduate of Mercer University. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Sharon built a successful accounting practice that started in Lilburn, Georgia and eventually moved her office to the family farm in Madison, Georgia, so she could work and ride horses all in the same day. Although she was a Mercer University Bear, you would typically find her glued to the television cheering on the UGA Bulldogs on Saturdays in the fall!
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Brogdon; two daughters, Christi Porto and husband Joe, Elizabeth Rose and husband Michael; and their grandchildren Garrett and Rylee Rose, Miranda Pickens, Jenna Porto, Bree Kettles and husband Jason; great-granddaughter Thea Kettles; sisters and brother-in-law Delores Zipperer, Kitty Brogdon, and Beverly and Greg Cato; and numerous nieces and a nephew.
Sharon was a beautiful and loving wife, caring and nurturing mother, and a kind and thoughtful friend to many. She passed away at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital with the love of her life, Joseph, beside her on Monday, May 10, 2021.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 2 to 4 o’clock in the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel, with a reception following in the reception room at the funeral home.
