Born in Manhattan, NY, Moose grew up in Savannah and graduated a “Cadet” from Benedictine Military High School in 1982. As a BC Cadet-defensive tackle, Moose, number 73, walked onto to his dream of UGA football during the era of Herschel Walker. He attended the University of Georgia where he played football in his first year. He loved the University of Georgia and was a huge Dawg fan the rest of his life.
When he left UGA he found a passion in cooking, which led him to work at and later make notorious, Rocky’s Pizzeria in downtown Athens as the owner. Among his many delicious creations, he was also known for creating a famous hot sauce called “Moose’s Last Breath.”
Moose was an avid animal lover, having rescued and owned several dogs throughout his lifetime, most notably his beloved Rottweiler, Cyprus. He was also a bike enthusiast and took part in the Bike Ride Across Georgia (BRAG) for many years and supported UGA biking teams.
He was preceded in death by both his father, Richard Silvagnoli; and stepfather, William Lassiter.
Survived by his mother, Carmelita Eldemire Lassiter; brother, Richard Lassiter (Laney); sister, Cassandra Samuels (Jon); uncles, Robert Joseph and Emile Joseph; nieces, Victoria and Alexandria Lassiter and their mother, Lisa Lassiter, long-time friend of Steven.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 15, at 2:00 p.m., at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens. A celebration of life will follow at Cutters Pub in downtown Athens.
