Born in Lima, Ohio on January 22, 1926, she was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Donald Herndon Sullivan; her brother, Daniel Carl Sullivan; and her husband, Robert Frederick Marion.
She attended Ohio State University and the University of Georgia.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Committee, Memorial Chairman, a group leader of the Flower Committee, treasurer of the Women of the Church, and served as Chair of the Congregational Care and Fellowship in her capacity of being an Elder.
She was a volunteer nurse’s aid and most recently a volunteer in the gift shop at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a former member of Athens Art Association, YWCO Advisory Board, Board of the State Botanical Garden Friends and the Junior Ladies Garden Club, where she served as president and as the Admissions Committee Chairman, Zone 8, Garden Club of America. She was the first President of Bridge-O-Rama, originated and was first president of Roadrunners. She also organized a painting class for “Would be Rembrandts,” which is still active.
Survivors include daughter, Sally Vandiver (Jack); granddaughters, Catherine (Andy) Reber, and Lisa Vandiver (Sam Gilpin); great-grandchildren, Jackson Reber, and Adelaide and Tallulah Gilpin; her brother, David (Gloria) Sullivan; nieces, Kim (Chris) Barnum, Susy (Gary) Baum, Sharon (Rick) Brandenburger; nephews, Sam (Royce) Marion, Clarke (Muffie) Greger and Alan Sullivan; a number of grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and loving companion and friend, Lars Ljungdahl.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 9 from 4-6 p.m. at the residence.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 10 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Athens with a reception to follow.
