Suzanna Askew Roberts

She was a native of Atlanta, Georgia and a longtime Athenian. She was affectionately known as “Tudy” to her family and friends. Mrs. Roberts was born on September 24, 1944, the daughter of the late Dr. Rufus Askew and the late Mrs. Mary Askew Henry and her husband, the late Dr. Lamont Henry.

Mrs. Roberts graduated from the Lovett School in Atlanta. She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. The bond with her sorority sisters stayed strong and prevalent throughout her life. For many years, she served as an advisor to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Chapter, at the University of Georgia.

Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Junior Ladies Garden Club, the Athens Junior Assembly (now Junior League of Athens) and Emmanuel Episcopal Church where she served on the Flower Guild. Gifted with an artistic eye, she was a talented floral designer and interior designer. Her creativity was an inspiration and she was a mentor to many.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband of 51 years, Owen M. “Cuppy” Roberts III, her son Owen M. “Shooter” Roberts IV (Hart), daughter Mary-Lamont Roberts and step-daughter, Kimberly Jane Roberts. The biggest joys of her life were her three grandchildren, Owen M. Roberts V, Mary Palmer Roberts and Julia Mims “Mimsie” Roberts. She leaves behind two brothers; Anthony B. “Tony” Askew (Peg), Hulett H. “Bucky” Askew (Cathy), two sisters-in-law; Jane Roberts “Candy” Killebrew (Johnny), Elizabeth Roberts “Mimsie” Lanier (Reese); many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 29, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 498 Prince Avenue followed by burial at Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at home from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Athens Academy, P.O. Box 6548, Athens, GA 30604 or Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 498 Prince Avenue, Athens, GA 30601.
