

Born in Asheville, NC to the late Thomas Paul Deaton and Jewel Florence Futch Deaton, the family moved to Florida soon after his birth. Tim grew up in Jacksonville, FL and he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. After high school, he immediately joined the Army and served in Vietnam from 1970 until 1973. After Vietnam, he briefly lived in the Athens area before relocating to Hickory, NC. He worked at Ridgecrest Baptist Conference Center in the summer of 1974 where he met his wife, Susan. They married in 1983. In North Carolina, he earned 3 associate degrees from Catawba County Community College, and he worked for the New Telephone Company for over 20 years.
Tim and Susan were members of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC before moving back to Georgia in 2008. They returned to Athens and became active members of Oconee Heights Baptist Church. Tim worked several jobs in Athens including H&R Block and Advance Auto before fully retiring.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Deaton Jr.
He leaves behind his wife, Susan; sisters-in-law: Carol Deaton and Laura Scott (Tommy); beloved nieces and nephews: Paul (Jody) Deaton of Rome, GA, Sunny Deaton Silva of Lithonia, GA, Kathryn (Josh) Short of Lizella, GA, Joy (Matthew) Barresi of Palmyra, VA, Seth (Lauren) Deaton of Lexington Park, MD, Joshua (Maggie) Deaton of Clarkston, GA, Ester (Chars) Rocha of Querétaro, Mexico; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, June 5, at 11:30 a.m., in Evergreen Memorial Park. Military funeral honors will be rendered by the United States Army.
