

Mr. Snyder was born in Lehighton, PA, September 29, 1918, the son of the late Chester A. and Cora (Berger) Snyder. He married the late Catherine M. Patterson of Harrisburg, PA in 1948.
Mr. Snyder is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Roberts of Northampton, PA, Pearl Miner of West Warwick, RI; and two brothers, Dr. Evan Snyder of Collegeville, PA and Earl Snyder of Baltimore, MD. Mr. Snyder graduated from Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA, in 1940 with a BS degree in Physics and Mathematics, Cum Laude. He served in the US Army Air Corps during 1940-1946. He was a member of the first class of Flying Cadets trained in meteorology. Mr. Snyder served as a Major in North Africa, Pantalleria, Sicily and Italy during WWII. He received a MS degree in Civil Engineering in 1948 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Mr. Snyder served as a Flood Forecaster with the Department of Forest and Waters Commonwealth of PA from 1948-1950. He was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1950-1963. He was a Professor of Civil Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1963-1969. In 1969 he joined the Agricultural Research Service, US Department of Agriculture in Athens, GA and conducted research in water related problems until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Snyder was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a number of other professional organizations. He was a member of the Athens Rock and Gem Club and the American Woodcarvers Association. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Snyder will be conducted Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church by Pastor Norbert Hahn. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, GA.
Visitation will be from 5:30-6 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be Adrian Thomas, Tony Dillard, Fred Yount, Jim Hansen, Rob Hawman and George Pearson.
