Born on August 16, 1967, at Fort McPherson, Georgia, he was the beloved son of Betty and Larry Wilson. Allen graduated from Walton High School in 1986 and continued his studies at Kennesaw State University. He dedicated almost 35 years to a legendary career in residential development, spending most of that time with John Wieland Homes. His incredible personality and light shone throughout the company he considered family—as they did him. One of his final joys was attending the last John Wieland company reunion.
On August 8, 2019, Allen met his soulmate, Josh Vasil. Together they built a life filled with love, magic, and countless adventures. They were each other’s light through every high and low and lived every second as if it were the last. They were both each other's great loves, engaging in an epic love story neither had ever known before, and their joy radiated to everyone around them.
Allen poured his love into the world around him—through his hundreds of friends- and especially his passions for boating on the lake, working on his cars, and tackling his endless “20-minute projects” at home. Even on the toughest days, Allen never slowed down. And whenever the music was good, he would dance the night away longer than anyone else could.
Allen is survived by his husband, Josh Vasil; his parents, Betty and Larry Wilson; his brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Kellye Wilson; his sister, Deena Bowers; his niece and nephew, Michael and Samantha Bowers; and his cousins, Sherry Jenks, Tina Newman, and Joy Edwards.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at Peachtree Point Pavilion & Amphitheater on June 13 at 4:00 PM. Friends and loved ones are invited to share memories and honor his remarkable life. A later celebration will be planned to dance the night away—just the way Allen would expect.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Healing NET Foundation in Allen's memory.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Eric Liu for his tireless efforts to advance care and treatment options for Allen—and, most of all, for being a friend when one was needed.
Allen’s presence and light leave a huge hole in our hearts that can never be filled. The heartbreak is unimaginable for those who loved—and were loved by—him. Yet we remain grateful for every extra moment he gave us, and we take comfort knowing he can finally rest.
If you loved Allen, his final wish would be that you live as he did—fully, right to the end. And when we do see him again, he will expect us all to have the best stories for him.
