Edna Snelling Thigpen, age 98, of Doraville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2017. Mrs. Thigpen was born in Tignall, Georgia on February 21, 1919. She was the oldest of seven children of Dora Brooks Snelling and Edwin David Snelling. Mrs. Thigpen attended Georgia State College for Women, and was employed by Georgia Power Company until her retirement. Edna’s love for her family and friends was evident in everything she did, and her happiness was most apparent when she was in the midst of those she loved. Edna was also an active and dedicated member of Pilot International, Peachtree Pilot Club of Atlanta chapter. Edna joined the organization in 1967, and during her forty-five years of service with the club, she served as President, Editor of the Peachtree Patter, and chaplain. She became an Emeritus member in 2012. Through Pilot Club, Edna gave of her time and talent to many causes, and she created lifelong friendships. Mrs. Thigpen was predeceased by her parents, husband, Edward Lee Hart, daughter, Kay Hart Blalock, sisters, Minnie Lee Snelling Biddix, and Mary Frances Snelling Bowlan, and brothers, Harold Eugene Snelling, Rudolph Snelling, and Thomas Jefferson Snelling. She is survived by her sister, Annie Ruth Snelling of Commerce, Georgia, daughter, Kim Thigpen Carlton, of Marietta, Georgia, son-in-law, William F. Blalock, III, granddaughters, Michelle Blalock Jarrett and Amanda Elizabeth Piepmeier, grandsons, Peter John Wenzell, Jr. and Patrick Christopher Wenzell, and great grandchildren, Caleb Karson Jarrett and William Bryson Jarrett. She is also survived by nieces, Brenda Brock and Sue Kavina, and nephews, Richard Snelling, Tommy Snelling, and Ronald Biddix. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 4-6 pm at H. M. Patterson and Son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. Funeral service will be held at Wieuca Road Baptist Church, 3626 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30326 on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 2pm with inurnment at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peachtree Pilot Club or Wieuca Road Baptist Church.
