

Elaine Walsh was born on September 30, 1919 in Shiloh, GA. She moved to Atlanta at an early age and attended Forrest Elementary School, Bass Middle School, and Girls High, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She was a charter member of Pi Beta Phi, University of Georgia Chapter. After the death of her husband, James J. Walsh, she worked for more than 20 years with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Atlanta, primarily as a social worker. She was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Atlanta and, after retiring, served as a member and officer of many volunteer organizations. She served as an officer of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women and assisted in many Deanery, State, and National meetings and conventions. She was a faithful weekly volunteer in the office at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home and served as an officer and committee chairman at various times for the OLPH auxiliary. She was a founding member of the St. Timothy Circle of IHM, which for many years prepared and provided materials for use at OLPH. She was an active member of the Altar Society and Hospitality Committee of IHM and a volunteer at the Notre Dame Bookshop in Chamblee. She was a participating member of Church Women United of Dekalb County, and several times each year she helped prepare and serve dinners at the Nicholas House and other shelters.
Elaine was the daughter of Thelma I. Kellum and Robert N. Fuller, and stepdaughter of John B. “Jack” Massa. She is survived by her sons James J. Walsh and his wife, Lynette McCoy Walsh, of Loudon, TN and R. Christopher Walsh and his wife Susan Harmon Walsh of Dawsonville, GA, daughter Helaine Walsh Markewich and her husband William Markewich of Atlanta, granddaughters Helen Ann Markewich of New York, NY and Heather L. Walsh of Dawsonville, GA, grandson Frederick D. Markewich of Atlanta, and many cousins and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2855 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, GA at 10:00 am on July 24, 2012; Rev. James Schillinger, S.T.L., officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church before the Memorial service.
