

Ellen Jane Ison Burns (Skeeter) died on January 11, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s . A native of Atlanta she was born on April 15, 1939 to Frank Ison and Elizabeth Parsons Ison. She was a proud graduate of Morningside Elementary and Grady High School where she was a varsity cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. It was also here that she met the love of her life Bricker Burns. She later attended the University of Tennessee and Southern Methodist University
.
She was a founding member of the Odds and Ends Garden Club in Dunwoody and Past President of the Cobb County Medical Auxiliary.
Skeeter will be remembered for her quiet beauty and as a faithful and caring friend. She enjoyed tennis, golf, domestic and international travel and her loyal dogs Brandy and Mindy. A special joy in her life was spending time with her five grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Dr. James Bricker Burns and sons Bricker, Jr., Brad, and Bruce, Sr. and his wife Heather Lynne and grandchildren Bruce Taylor, Jr., Caroline Elizabeth, Holly Grace, Margaret Ann and Phillip Joseph.
The family especially wants to express their appreciation to the staff at Mann House for the attention and care provided to Skeeter.
Services will be held on Saturday January 17 at Peachtree Christian Church, 1580 Peachtree Street at 2 o’clock. The family will receive friends at 12:30. In lieu of flowers donations should be sent to The Alzheimer’s Association at 41 Perimeter Center East, Atlanta, GA 30346 or Peachtree Heritage Fund at Peachtree Christian Church, 1580 Peachtree St. Atlanta, GA 30309.
