
Faith was born to William and Bessie Evans November 8, 1917, in Denver, Colorado. She was one of seven children and spent her child hood in Colorado and Texas. She began attending church at The Salvation Army as a girl and felt called to service as a Salvation Army officer.
She trained for officership at The Salvation Army's training college in Atlanta and was commissioned as a lieutenant in 1937. She served as a single officer in Big Spring, Waco and Harlingen, Texas. She was married to Lieutenant James Childs January 14, 1944, and they served as officers together, pastoring Salvation Army congregations in Harlingen, Austin and Sherman, Texas. They also served as officer developing a new Salvation Army camp in Midlothian, Texas, in the mid-1950's.
James and Faith Childs later transferred to the Men's Social Service Department of The Salvation Army, where they directed men's rehabilitation programs in Charlotte, North Carolina; Jacksonville, Florida; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Oklahoma City. They later served in the Social Service Department, coordinating programs in Atlanta, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Louisville, Kentucky.
They retired from The Salvation Army as brigadiers in 1982 and made their residence on the shores of Lake Lanier in northeast Georgia. Brigadier James Childs passed away in 1989, and her son, Jim in 2014. Brigadier Faith Childs relocated to Atlanta in 2004, making her home at the King's Bridge senior residence in northeast Atlanta.
Faith Childs lived out her Christian faith throughout her lifetime. She was known for her warmth, kindness and love for family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family: daughter Judy (Barry) Roland and son Dan and grandchildren Benjamin, Angela, Eric and Christopher.
Her life will be celebrated in a service at The Salvation Army Atlanta Temple Corps on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta. Captain Kenneth Argot will officiate, and Lt. Colonel W. Edward Laity will speak. Following will be a graveside service at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
