For Grey
You can behold a sunset,
But you cannot hold it near.
This is well known to us all,
The reasons why are clear.
Life’s a whisper, softly made,
And Oh! So very brief.
You are as the season gone,
In the turning of a leaf.
But soon the sun again will rise,
This too is true we know,
This darkness which now claims our sight,
Supplanted by your glow.
For having lived in that bright light,
Will see us through our grief,
And you’ll be with us always,
As the turning of the leaf.
