Jack D. Byrd Jr., aged 75, passed away on 09/04/2024 after battling several illnesses. He lived a fulfilling life, graduating from college, serving in the army for 4 years, and enjoying a successful career in the corporate world. Later, he had a vision of what he could really do, and founded his own company, J Byrd Enterprises Inc., in 1990.
Jack was a manufacturer’s representative for various products, primarily specializing in hospital corner guards, handrails, and wall protection. His primary client was Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Not only was he a sales representative there, but he was also a problem solver, always ready to find solutions for the hospital's unique needs. He continued working there until his "unofficial" retirement in 2021.
Known for his friendly nature and great sense of humor, Jack was beloved by everyone who crossed paths with him. In 1989, he attended his high school reunion at Stewart County High School, where he met and fell in love with Kay Mitchell, a friend and fellow classmate of his sister. Their love story began at that reunion and lasted until his passing.
When their condo community needed a new HOA board member, Jack volunteered for the position. He oversaw all outdoor construction work and diligently documented everything with amazing photographs, providing the board with a visual record of the community's progress. When he had to step down due to health reasons, the community recognized his contributions and applauded him at the last board meeting, expressing gratitude for all he had done.
In his later years, Jack's grumpy old man persona brought laughter to everyone around him.
The Mitchell Byrd household was always filled with laughter and joy, accompanied by the presence of two special cats over the years, creating a perfect match made in Heaven.
Jack will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
