James M. Seaver of Duluth, Ga. passed away peacefully at his home on February 16th. He was born in Atlanta on March 8, 1946 to the late Morrison and Bernice Seaver. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife Susan Lauria Seaver, his son & daughter-in-law, Christopher and Cara and grandsons Charlie and Sawyer, all of Decatur. He also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law, Ann & Glenn Brinson of West Palm Beach, FL, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vinnie and Marsha Lauria, his nephew Bob Brinson and niece Beth Des Jardin and their respective families. Jim graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1964 and from the University of Alabama in 1969 where he was a lifelong Sigma Chi fraternity brother.
His career began in 1974 with International Harvester in Atlanta and later went on to find much success as co-founder of AGCO Corporation in Duluth, serving as Senior Vice President of Marketing Worldwide and CEO of AGCO Finance until his retirement in 2005.
Jim was very active in both his community and church. He was a loyal alumni of St. Pius, where he generously donated both time and finances to a new athletic field, named the Seaver Family Sports Complex. He also continued to support the Sigma Chi fraternity and could always be found cheering on the Crimson Tide on any football Saturday.
Jim enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer but his fondest memories were those shared with family and dear friends. He was the life of every party - someone who could light up the room with any number of jokes or as a great storyteller. But nothing will ever top the happiness that he had when spending time with his two grandchildren. He will be missed by all and never forgotten.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20th at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill from 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral will be on Friday, February 21st at 10:30 AM at St. Benedict's Church in Johns Creek with Monsignor Richard Lopez officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Sandy Springs. A celebration of life will also be held Friday afternoon at St. Ives Country Club in Duluth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: The American Heart Association.
