

Born on December 11, 1947, in Newton, Massachusetts, John was the son of the late Margaret Callanan Fogarty and Daniel Michael Fogarty. He grew up with a deep appreciation for family, discipline, service, and teamwork—values that guided him throughout his life.
John attended Nottingham High School in Syracuse, New York, before continuing his education at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He proudly graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1971. While at West Point, John was a dedicated athlete, playing both college football and lacrosse, and he remained a lifelong patron of the Academy. A devoted supporter of Army athletics, John was a longtime West Point football season ticket holder and proudly held his own dedicated parking space—an honor he treasured deeply.
During his military career, John earned a Master’s of Public Administration degree from Georgia Southern University, completing his graduate studies while stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia—an accomplishment that reflected his commitment to leadership, service, and lifelong learning.
Following the completion of his military service, John began his civilian career at DuPont. In 1987, he transitioned into investment banking, working at Citibank and Deutsche Bank. He later spent the remainder of his professional life in marketing roles for various hedge funds, where his relationship-building skills, sharp instincts, and persuasive abilities were widely respected.
A passionate sports enthusiast, John shared his love of athletics through decades of service to his community. He coached recreational lacrosse in Ridgewood, New Jersey, for more than 30 years, mentoring generations of young athletes with patience, integrity, and encouragement. He also greatly enjoyed playing golf at Ridgewood Country Club, where he spent many cherished hours with friends and family.
John is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Steets Fogarty; his children, Julie Fogarty McGill (Kevin), John “Jake” Fogarty, and Caitlin Reddington Fogarty; and his adored grandchildren, Flynn, Keefer, and Molly McGill. He is also survived by his sisters, Connie Leist (Alan) and Dana Weber (Mark), as well as many nieces, nephews, and great friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Margaret “Peg” Cadaret; his brother, Daniel Charles “Chuck” Fogarty; his niece, Karen Weber; and his nephew Kierin Charles Guillemin.
John will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his commitment to service, his deep love of sports, his keen sense of humor, and his lifelong love of negotiating. His warmth, wit, and wisdom left a lasting impression on all who knew him, and his legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
