Marie Stowers Davie went to be with her Savior on August 18, 2016, surrounded by her children at her home. She was the only child of Alonzo James and Louise Clarke Stowers of Atlanta. Marie was a native Atlantan who attended E. Rivers Elementary School, graduated from North Fulton High School, and received her Bachelor of Arts from Agnes Scott College. Her interests included bridge, antiquing and travel. She enjoyed collecting art work on her international and local travels taken with her husband, Bob Davie. The paintings brought her many happy memories. Marie was a gifted hostess who especially enjoyed entertaining at her annual Derby parties – looked forward to by all. She was a member of Rabun Gap Nacoochee Guild, and The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, enjoying their Rambles starting in 1983. She also was an inaugural member of the High Museum.
Dedicated to The Lovett School, Marie helped to open the Admissions Office there, and served for thirty-six years prior to her retirement as Associate Director. She was delighted that two of her children were Lovett graduates, and enjoyed seeing three of her grandchildren at Lovett each day. She felt love and support from her friends at Lovett and her “lunch bunch.”
Marie was a life-long member of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, where she was in the Friendship Sunday School Class. Her greatest joy in life was her four children, to whom she gave a foundation of regular church attendance that led to their active and saving faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Louise Marie Davie, sons Robert Franklin Davie, Jr., James Stephen Davie (Beth), Clarke Welborn Davie (Kelli), and five grandchildren -- Olivia Davie, Dobbs Davie, Oliver Davie, Corinne Davie, and Robert Davie.
A memorial service and reception celebrating Marie’s life will be held at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30305, at 11 o’clock in the morning, on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. A private burial will precede the memorial service. Donations in her memory may be made to the church.
