Marjorie Eileen Cutler Woodfin, 98, of Macon, Georgia passed away on January 23, 2021, in Atlanta. Born in Nebraska to Atwood and Alice Cutler on September 28, 1922, Marjorie graduated from high school in Chula Vista, California.
She married Richard Henry Woodfin on January 20, 1942 in Honolulu, Hawaii shortly after the attack on Peral Harbor. The couple soon departed for San Francisco on separate ships; the groom on a USN cruiser escorting the bride on a civilian ship.
Marjorie became an expert in packing and relocating due to her husband’s 30-year career in the Navy. After her children were grown, she traveled regularly to San Diego and Honolulu to visit her two sisters, Betty and Mary Alice, who also married career military officers.
Captain Woodfin became head of NROTC at Georgia Tech in 1962 and his last tour of duty was as Head of Recruiting for the USN for the Southeast, which led to the couple’s relocation to Macon. While in Macon, Marjorie was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Marjorie was preceded by her husband and will be interred next to him in Andersonville National Cemetery at a future date.
Marjorie is survived by her children Richard Woodfin, Jr. (Caren Burns), Ann Woodfin Hardy (Charles, deceased), and William Cutler Woodfin (Stephanie); six grandchildren, Warren Theriot Woodfin, Elizabeth Cutler Woodfin, Charles Russell Hardy (Jr.), Bryan Richard Hardy, Westley Richard Woodfin, and Whitney Woodfin Wildeboer; and one great grandchild, Stella Grace Hardy.
