Sue devoted herself to people in need—homeless women she took to lunch, children she taught, families of hospital patients she housed, the elderly for whom she cared—and was a steadfast member of Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, where she led its Women’s Missionary Union.
An expressive lyric soprano, singing gave her great joy, in church choirs for over 70 years and as member of the Atlanta Symphony Chorus under Robert Shaw.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard Stumm, an Atlanta attorney; their daughter, the concert violist, Jennifer Stumm, of London, England; her sister, JoAnn Dickson of Anderson, South Carolina; nephews, Chris, Jay and Joe Dickson; their children, and numerous cousins, most of whom reside in Anderson County, South Carolina.
A celebration of her life will take place at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church on February 18 at 4 pm, 2715 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Second-Ponce WMU ministry.
