Mrs. Peggy Ann Carden McKay passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019, after a brief illness at home. She was born on September 14, 1932 in Roanoke, AL, to Mr. Charlie Swann Carden and Mrs. Elsie Bonner Bailey Carden, and had lived in the Brookhaven neighborhood of Atlanta since 1964. She was a homemaker, kindergarten teacher, and office worker who took great pride in her immaculate home, her Southern cooking, and luscious gardens, as well as great joy in her immediate and extended family. She was married to Mr. James Edward McKay of Oxford, AL, for 61 years, until his death in 2012. She was also preceded in death by both her parents, one sister, Mrs. Jean Hall of Roanoke, AL, and her two brother in laws, Mr. Philip White of Griffin, GA, and Mr. Harold Hall of Roanoke, AL. She is survived by her two children, Ms. Phyllis Ann McKay of Atlanta, and Rev. John and Mrs. Bonnie McKay of Alpharetta, GA; her sister, Mrs. Gwen White of Griffin, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the H.M. Patterson – Oglethorpe Hill Chapel on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. McKay, followed by a reception at the same location for her family and friends. She will be interred later with her husband in a private ceremony at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
