Peter Warford Colmer passed away on August 10, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 76 after a relatively short struggle with glioblastoma. He was born on December 3, 1948 in Bronxville, New York to his devoted parents Hans and Constance Colmer.
From an early age, Peter stood out as an achiever. In high school he starred in musicals and was the captain of his football team. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University in 1970. Peter moved to Atlanta in 1972, after first teaching history at a private high school in Bel-air Maryland, to work as a commercial banker at The First National Bank of Atlanta. In 1978 he started his first company, Southern Capital Savings Corporation, an advisory firm. In 1985, he was hired as Vice President and eventually became the CFO of Space Master International. In 1988, he founded Finley, Colmer and Company and was its managing partner until his death. Finley, Colmer and Co. was a corporate advisory and crisis management firm that helped more than 250 clients over its nearly 40 years, and Peter later served on many of these companies boards as well as serving as a court appointed trustee in countless corporate bankruptcy matters.
Peter was a loyal friend, and in his final months received an outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and colleagues that came from all over the country. Many of Peter’s longtime clients became his closest friends, and many of these friends spoke of the numerous employee jobs, and companies themselves, that Peter helped save during his career. Peter loved to be silly, and was often seen at many of the best restaurants in the towns and cities throughout the southeast that he frequented. Peter loved reading, especially history, and was a lifelong Catholic, often in attendance at men’s events and the annual Lenten fish fry, and in his younger years was a regular on the church softball team and in the choir. He also loved playing tennis, golf, and traveling.
Peter is survived by his brother Jay Colmer; his son David Colmer (and wife Brigitte); his son Bradley Colmer (and wife Olivia); his daughter Katherine Johnston (and husband David), his daughter Halle Reed, and his grandchildren Christopher, Maia, Walter, Rafael, Rex, and Danielle.
Peter’s Memorial Mass will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King on August 28, 2025 at 10 AM, with a reception to follow. All are welcome.
