
Richard was born in Hammond, Indiana on January 17, 1956, to Margaret Feigenbaum and John Paul Jones, Jr. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and from Georgia State University with a Masters in Music Performance. As a woodwind specialist, Rich was a professional musician and educator. A member in good standing of the Atlanta Federation of Musicians, he was closely involved with the cultural life of Atlanta, including the Alliance Theater, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Gentle Rain Productions, the company he co-founded with his wife, Christine. A life long Lutheran, Rich founded and lead the popular “9:45 Sunday Morning Jazz Service” at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Peachtree St. in Atlanta.
Much beloved husband to Christine and awesome father (Bussy) to Christiane and Jesse, Richard is predeceased by his father, John. He is survived by his mother, Margaret; wife, Christine Drescher-Jones; two children: Christiane and Jesse Jones; sisters: Lois Jones (James) Rybolt and Lydia Jones (Alan) Kulovitz; brother, William (Toni) Jones; nieces and nephews: Sharon Lyon, Michael Rybolt, Amanda Stairs, Ryan Jones, Nicole and Michelle Kulovitz; and grand-niece Katelyn Lyon.
A memorial service for Richard will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 at 3:00pm. Gathering music begins at 2:30pm, with a reception following the services.
