

He was born February 2, 1940 in Miami, FL to the late Denzil and Frances (Allen) Liegerot. He attended the University of Miami before starting a long career as a pilot, joining Airlift International in 1961. Ric served in the U.S. Army/Military Police Corps from 1963 to 1965. In 1966, he resumed his flying career with Airlift in Atlanta. He left Airlift in 1976 to start the flight department of Irby/Sewell Southeastern Aviation Underwriters which later became AIG Aviation. He served as Chief Pilot for 35 years, retiring in 2011 and had the distinction of being awarded The Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" award by the FAA of 50 years of flying without incident.
Ric was a great lover of golf. He especially enjoyed playing at Horseshoe Bend Country Club where he had been a member since the mid 1970’s.
He particularly enjoyed his lunch group, "The Geezers", a group of retired pilots who lunched together each week day.
He was also an active member of Mary Our Queen Catholic Church where he volunteered for many ministries, including training altar servers and also serving as Master of Ceremony.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Denny Liegerot of Brevard, NC.
Ric is survived by his wife, Alice of 56 years. He is also survived by very special cousins, Lauren (Freeland), Will, Wes, Lilly and Sarah Thomas all of Suwanee, GA; Dr. Michael Freeland, wife Debbie, children Marley and Jace Freeland of Orlando, FL; and Kelley Freeland of Little Rock, AR. He is also survived by sister-in-law Tine Liegerot, nephews Denny Liegerot, Jr. of Brevard NC and Fletcher Liegerot of New York City.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church, 11:00 a.m. with Fr. David Dye and Fr. Charles Byrd officiating. (6260 The Corners Pkwy NW, Peachtree Corners GA 30092) 770/416-0002
