Robert "Bob" James Glenn, 73, died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on February 8, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in and lived almost his entire life in the City of Atlanta, as did his parents, the late Anne Alston and John "Jack" Fitten Glenn. Bob was born on May 7, 1942, at Piedmont Hospital, at which time his father was deployed in the Pacific theater serving the U.S. Navy in World War II.
A member of the class of 1960 at The Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, Bob then received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Auburn University in 1964, where he was a brother of Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Bob moved back to Atlanta after graduation and worked at Printpack Inc. In 1969, he started his career in financial services at Blyth and Co. He then enjoyed a long tenure at Robinson-Humphrey Company (now SunTrust Robinson Humphrey) from 1972 until 2004. There he headed the Syndicate Department as well as serving on the Company's executive board and as vice chairman of the firm.
In 2004, Bob took the opportunity to open the Atlanta office of Morgan Keegan & Company Inc., as executive managing director. From 2011 until his passing, he served as Director of the Equity Capital Markets group at Atlanta's Raymond James &Associates.
Bob served for many years as a committee member of the Securities Industry Association, including taking on the role of Southern District chairman. He additionally was vice chair of the National Association of Securities Dealers and served as a key board member of JGA Corporation.
Bob was passionate about giving back to his community, and he contributed significant time and expertise on the board of directors of Goodwill Industries of Atlanta, The Darlington School, The Lovett School, Leadership Georgia Foundation Inc., and on Emory University's Board of Visitors and St. Luke's Episcopal Church's vestry. He and his family established financial aid scholarships at both Darlington and Lovett and a character education program at Lovett.
Bob was a past president of two Atlanta institutions: Peachtree Golf Club and The Piedmont Driving Club. He also served on the advisory board of the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Georgia.
Bob was devoted to his large family and huge group of lifelong friends. His childhood "playgroup" of "Buckhead boys" maintained close contact until the day of his death.
Bob is survived by his wife, Betsy Glenn; daughters Anne Fitten Glenn of Asheville, NC, Saunders Glenn Bohan (Tommy) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Amanda Glenn Brady of Atlanta; eight grandchildren-Annabelle and Cador Jones of Asheville, Sarah, Lilly and Carolyn Bohan of Virginia Beach, and Glenn, Anne Alston, and Robert Brady of Atlanta; three brothers and their wives, Jack and Jean, Alston and Betty, and Lewis and Nancy Glenn, all of Atlanta; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
