Rodolfo (“Rudy”) Damian de Guzman, 97, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, in Atlanta, GA. Born on July 24, 1928, he lived a long and meaningful life defined by quiet strength, a kind spirit and a warm smile that touched all who knew him.
Rodolfo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalie, who passed away in 2016. Their enduring partnership exemplified how love perseveres through unwavering commitment, even in the face of life’s challenges. Together, they created countless cherished memories.
Beyond their volunteer work at the local Catholic church in Las Vegas, Rudy was Rosalie’s trusted sous chef during church bake sales. Rudy would carefully slice apples while Rosalie made the pie crust for her famous apple pie, which always sold out. Their teamwork extended outside the kitchen to their world travels. Rudy would patiently tow Rosalie’s luggage, which became heavier each day with each new item she couldn’t resist buying.
Rudy was the last living child of Herminigildo de Guzman and Evarista Damian de Guzman from the Philippines. Rudy met Rosalie there. In their fifties, they moved the family to the United States due to political unrest.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Felixberta de Guzman Hidalgo, Ricardo Damian de Guzman, Cornelio Damian de Guzman, Ramonato Damian de Guzman, Jesus Damian de Guzman, and Lirio de Guzman Santos.
He is also survived by his children: his daughter, Roxanne Haslach, and her husband, Michael, their children Max and Sophia of Atlanta, Georgia; his son, Ronald de Guzman, and his wife, Jocelyn, their children Aidan and Jodie of Jacksonville, Florida; his son, Rommel de Guzman, of Watsonville, California; his son, Roy de Guzman, and his wife, Lara and their children, Bianca and Isabella of Las Vegas, Nevada; his daughter, Rhoda Hipolito, her ex-husband Frederick Hipolito and their children, Ethan, Justin, Alyanna and Troy who all live in the Philippines. Rudy’s grandchildren will remember him by his playful and gentle presence, his stories, and his love of card games.
In the past three years while living with his daughter, Roxanne, and her family in Atlanta, GA, Rudy attended Anchor Place (we called it the “Senior Club”) twice a week for social, emotional and spiritual support where he made many friends and enjoyed painting, card games, chair tennis and lectures on travel and various annual events and celebrations.
Also known as the “Rosary Man,” Rudy made over 500 rosaries while living in Atlanta. Almost every day, he would quietly sit at the dining room table to string beads and tie knots to complete each rosary. Each Divine Mercy Sunday (the Sunday after Easter), including this one in April, these rosaries are given out to parishioners.
Throughout his 97 years, Rudy was known for his humility and kindness. Many lives have been touched with his warmth, quiet grace and the many blessings received from each rosary he has made for others.
