Ruth Kittrell Jetmundsen was born in Mobile, Alabama and resided there most of her life, especially on Dog River. She graduated from Murphy High School and Randolph Macon Women's College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, Henry Jonathan and Essie Pollard Kittrell, her brother, Henry J. Kittrell, Jr., and sister, Grace M. Kittrell. She is survived by her children, Norman (Kelli), Robert, John (Anne) and Howard (Sally), her grandchildren, Nelson, Taylor, Jonathan, Abby, Henry, Norman, and Bennett, and her brother, David L. Kittrell. Her last years were spent in Highlands, N.C. and at Canterbury Court in Atlanta, GA. The family is grateful to the many loving caregivers at Canterbury Court who cared for her and to her friend, Eva Binns. A social worker before she married and started a family, Ruth later ran the gift shop at the Mobile Infirmary. She loved playing bridge, needle pointing, reading, and visiting with her family. A steady and loving influence on family and friends throughout her life, she was the epitome of the wife and mother described in Proverbs 22: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also.” A small memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Canterbury Court Chapel on Peachtree St. in Atlanta, and an interment will take place in Mobile, Alabama at a later time. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The Ruth K.and Norman Jetmundsen Family Scholarship at the University of the South, 735 University Ave., Sewanee, Tennessee 37383, or to All Saints' Episcopal Church, 151 S. Ann St., Mobile, Alabama 36604, or to the charity of your choice.
