

Born on April 29, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, Shelby was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from The University of Alabama, where he was a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He went on to serve his country honorably as a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In the 1970s, Shelby made his home in Atlanta, where he spent many years working in the mortgage industry before retiring in 1999.
Shelby was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Ruth White; his brother, Donald White; his sisters, Ruth Lombard and Evelyn Spearman; and his beloved son, Adam Shelby White. A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, Shelby was very proud of his family and cherished them above all else. He was deeply involved in the lives of his sons and his grandchildren, offering unwavering love, support, and his presence. He is survived by his sons Winston (Marisa), Peter, Tyre Law (Stacey), and Hart Law (Gulsu); his cherished former spouse and best friend, Georgia Manry White; and his grandchildren William White, Theodore White, Carter Law, Shelby Law, Zeynep Law, and Leyla Law. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends to whom he was deeply devoted.
A faithful member of the Cathedral of St. Philip, Shelby served for many years as an usher. A memorial service will be held at the Cathedral on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. (2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30305), with a reception to follow in Child Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Shelby’s memory to the Cathedral of St. Philip.
