Bobbie Jean Burton died peacefully on Wednesday, June 16th, 2021 at the age of 91. She was a lifelong resident of Etowah County, raised in Gallant and then moving to Attalla after her marriage to the love of her life, Walter (Bud) Burton who passed away in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Gladys Hobgood Brothers and Edgar (Bill) Brothers, her sister Gail Starling and her brother Billy Brothers.
The joy of her life was her family and she was blessed with a daughter Lynne Burton Clifton, married to Robert Clifton and a son Larry Burton who is married to Ruth Mills Burton.
Her children blessed her with four grandchildren of whom she thought the world - Amanda Hawkins Benfeld, Sara Hawkins Hardison and Laura Hawkins Lewis and one grandson, John Walter Burton.
Those granddaughters blessed her with four great grandchildren and she was delighted to have been a small part of their lives, able to meet the last one just before she died.
She was active in her church, Stowers Hill Baptist in Attalla, teaching Sunday School for many years and working with the GA’s, Vacation Bible School and church parties for the youth. She and Bud often traveled with their church friends, and enjoyed cake and coffee with them on Sunday nights after church.
Bobbie was a friend indeed to family and neighbors, always among the first to take food and flowers when someone was sick or had a loss.
She also loved reading, music, gardening and cooking. She was quite a gifted artist who enjoyed painting and her sewing skills were admired by many. Neighbors were never surprised to see her after midnight watering her garden and flowers, even when using a walker. She seemed to have endless energy until her last few months.
Her children, Lynne and Larry, wish to express heartfelt thanks to all the people who took the time to call or visit her in those last few months; and wish to express a special thanks to the ladies who sat with her during the past year. She called them “my angels” and we hope God blesses them for their work.
It was Bobbie’s wish that people not think of her and be sad she’s gone. She’d rather be remembered with a smile, a fond memory or just be happy that she’s no longer confined to a bed. She is now reunited with her soul mate, holding hands and strolling over Heaven, and visiting with her many loved ones who’ve gone before.
The family will receive visitors from noon - 2pm Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will follow at First Baptist Gallant at 2:30pm.
