

Ray was born on August 2, 1946, in Attalla, Alabama. He was a current resident of Attalla and a lifelong member of Cave Springs Baptist Church.
A memorial service celebrating Ray’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Cave Springs Baptist Church, located at 4200 Duck Springs Road, Attalla, Alabama 35954. The service will be conducted by Reverend Bobby Bryant, with a meal to follow for family and friends.
Ray is preceded in death by his mother, Alma Meadows Rakestraw; father, Dennis Rakestraw; and many beloved aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his chosen son, Adam (Courtney) Willett; chosen grandchildren, Lainey Willett and Cooper Willett; sister, Jane (Tommy) Miller; brother, Wayne (Juanita) Rakestraw; niece, Toni (Todd) Lumpkin; nephews, Jonathan (Stacy) Rakestraw and Kevin (Selina) Rakestraw; several great-nieces and great nephews; and a multitude of cousins whom he loved dearly.
Ray will be fondly remembered for his deep love of family and lifelong passion for horses. An avid rider, he found joy in traveling far and wide in search of the perfect trail. His enthusiasm and knowledge of horses were generously shared with many in his circle, leaving a lasting impact. He had a deep appreciation for Southern gospel music, finding joy in listening to the uplifting melodies. Ray graduated from Etowah High School in 1964 and continued his education at Snead State Community College and Jacksonville State University. During his school years, he was a proud member of Army JROTC later serving several years in the United States Army. Professionally, Ray dedicated many years to Meadow Gold Dairies. After its closure, he continued his career as a truck driver for Southeastern Freight Lines, where he was known for his hard work and reliability.
In honor of Ray’s memory, the family welcomes potted plants or donations. Contributions may be made to Cave Springs Baptist Church or Cave Springs Cemetery and mailed to the address provided above.
