

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Angellette Williams and Ross Owen Colvin; brothers, Owen Colvin, Paul Colvin, and George Colvin; and grandson, Jade Campbell. He is survived by his children, Chris (Katalina) Colvin, Cindy (Eric) Colvin McElroy, and Jill (Judson) Colvin Womack; his grandchildren, Wade Campbell, Tiffany Campbell, Ross Colvin, Candace McElroy, Chase McElroy, Damon Walker, Madison Humphrey, and Faith Womack; his great-grandchildren, Victoria Colvin and Aydin Campbell; sisters, Faye Colvin Davis and Katy Colvin Cooper; and brother, Larry Colvin.
James was born in Attalla, Alabama, the middle sibling of seven children. He drove a tank in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and he received a purple heart. After his time in the service, he worked as a master carpenter. He lived in Montevallo, Alabama, for more than twenty years. He was an avid football fan, and he loved fishing and could catch a fish when no one else could. He loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, cooking out, or planting a garden. He was an animal lover, and people were drawn to his sweet, kind nature. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking to people. He was an amazing father and PawPaw.

Burial will be a the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 31, 2020 from 10a.m. to 4p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel. To ensure we follow all new state regulations concerning the Coronavirus, we have extended the visitation to allow only 10 people at a time in our chapel for your safety. For those with low immune systems, please contact the family to accommodate you for visitation.
Any friends or family that would like to be here but can not please feel free to call the Morgan Funeral Chapel office to leave a condolence for the family. Our staff will be taking down your condolences and messages for the family. Our staff will the be placing them on a heart shaped balloon and placing them in the chapel to represent you being here.
