Janice Ann Pittman Hall, age 90, of Steele, Alabama, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. Born on November 24, 1935, in Wilson County, North Carolina, Janice lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, and enduring love.
Jan was the daughter of MaryAnn and Ivey Pittman and grew up alongside her siblings—her brother Ron and sisters Nelda, Faye. As the youngest, she often fondly reminded her siblings of her “baby” status. Raised during the Great Depression, Jan learned early the value of family, resilience, and togetherness—bonds that remained strong throughout her life.
On October 24, 1953, she married the love of her life, Joe Green Hall, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Together, they built a life centered on love and family. They welcomed their daughter, Teresa Jo (Terri), in 1954. Later, they lovingly adopted their son, Stephen Allen (Steve), completing their family in 1962. Janice cherished her role as a mother and poured her heart into raising her children.
In 1965, the family relocated to Alabama when Joe’s career as a railroad engineer brought them there. They eventually settled in Center Point before purchasing a farm in Ashville in 1979, where Jan truly found joy in creating a warm and welcoming home.
Jan’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She became a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Ashville, where she faithfully attended services and was an active participant in her Sunday School class. Her spiritual journey deepened alongside her daughter Terri, and both shared the special experience of being baptized together.
Known for her kind spirit and loving heart, Jan treasured time spent with her family. She also enjoyed shopping trips and weekly lunches with dear friends, especially her close friend Freda. Her warmth, laughter, and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Even as her health declined, Janice remained steadfast in her faith, facing the end of her life with peace, assurance, and no fear—confident in her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Hall; her parents, MaryAnn and Ivey Pittman.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Terri (Don) Uptain; her son, Steve (Deborah) Hall; grandchildren Dana (Scott) Jones, Amber (David) McCreless, and Casey (April) Moring; and great-grandsons Joe Uptain, Tyler Morring, Sam Coleman, Jackson McCreless, Slade Jones, and Jase Morring. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
