

The last of 10 children, he was born on the Morgan farm in Clay County, AL on March 18, 1943 to Zadie Lou Horn Morgan and Willie Frank Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brothers, Willie Bram, Norman Colin, Frank Hilton, Lenoard Amos, Carl Eugene, Woodfin Dowery, and Dewitt Leon; an unnamed stillborn infant son; and his sister, Zadie Anne Gravette.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Audrey Hobbs Morgan; two daughters, Penelope "Penny" Starr (Dennis) of Lebanon, TN and Dr. Sherry Meadows (Phillip) of Guntersville; and his son, Don Morgan (Christina) of Prattville, AL. Jerry was a proud Paw Paw to Justin Starr (Michelle), Jason Starr (Samantha), Jessica Starr, Keith Meadows, Julianna Meadows, Eleanor Meadows, Elizabeth Morgan, McKenzie Morgan, Wyatt Morgan, and Michael Morgan; and a Great Paw Paw to twin great-grandsons, Brayden and Kayden Starr.
He graduated from Clay County High School in 1961 and went on to receive degrees from Regis College in Denver, CO and Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL.
Jerry entered the US Army on June 5, 1965 and served on active duty for over 22 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Medical Service Corps. During his time on active duty, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin) and several other medals and awards. In addition to many stateside assignments, Jerry also spent 37 months behind the "Iron Curtain" in Berlin, Germany. After retiring from the Army, he worked for Wakefield's in Anniston, AL and the Alabama Industries for the Blind in Talladega, AL
Jerry loved his God, his family and his country. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Albertville where he enjoyed serving as a greeter and handing out Werther's Original candies each Sunday. He and his wife achieved their goal of visiting all 50 United States in 2009.
One of Jerry's passions was helping fellow veterans receive the benefits they earned while serving our Country. He was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), serving as the State Commander for the Department of Alabama Disabled American Veterans, Commander for DAV Chapter 7 in Mobile, AL, and most recently served as a Chapter Service Officer (CSO) for DAV Chapter 18, Guntersville, AL. In addition to filing benefit claims on behalf of veterans, he also served as a driver, taking veterans from the VA Clinic in Mobile, AL to the VA Hospital in Biloxi, MS. Accumulating over 4,394 volunteer hours, Jerry was awarded the President's Lifetime Achievement Award by the President of the United States in 2024.
In addition to volunteering with the DAV, Jerry also volunteered with the Boy Scouts and was awarded the Order of the Arrow as part of his leadership training. He also served with the Appalachia Service Project helping to make homes warmer, safer, and drier for Appalachian families.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Albertville on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 12:30pm, followed by a Memorial service to begin at 2:00pm.
