Judith Lewis Dressman, a faithful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother went home to be with her Heavenly Father on September 28. Judy was predeceased by her parents Gladstone Lewis and Judith Lewis, and her brothers, Gladstone Lewis, Jr. and John Lewis. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Frank Dressman. She is also survived by her children, Rob Dressman and Michele Dressman Mann (Rob Mann) and her three grandchildren: Robert, Sarah, and Elizabeth Mann.
Judy was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in her beloved Greenbelt, Maryland. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1956 where she was a majorette for 4 years. She had the privilege of marching in Eisenhower’s 1953 Inauguration Parade as well as several Orange Bowl Parades.
Judy had a quick wit, an infectious laugh, a sharp mind, a lover of fashion, and a super competitor. She was an incredible seamstress – she made her own clothes, clothes for her kids, prom dresses, household items, like, curtains, tablecloths, dust ruffles….you name it, she could make it! She also was a great athlete – she played basketball in high school and was a majorette in high school and college. Later in life she picked up tennis and golf and was quite successful in local leagues and tournaments.
For over 50 years, Judy was an active member of Gadsden’s First United Methodist Church where she greatly enjoyed being a part of the Martin Fellowship community. When Young Life, a mission devoted to introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith, came to Gadsden in the 1980’s, she and Frank served on their board. That ministry was instrumental in the spiritual growth of both of their children. She enjoyed serving others in the community by working at the Ladle of Love Soup Kitchen at First United Methodist Church and delivering meals to the elderly, homebound and disabled through MANNA.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 7 at First United Methodist Church in Gadsden at 10:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Ladle of Love Soup Kitchen (First United Methodist Church), 115 South 5th St., Gadsden, AL 35901.
