

Marion Harlan “Doc” Daugherty, of Southside, reached his Heavenly Home on Thursday, March 10th, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family. Funeral services will be Monday, March 14, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla, Alabama. Pastor Gerald Taylor will officiate. Burial to follow in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery. Harlan was originally from Saks, Alabama, but retired to Southside. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Campaign. He also served and retired from the Alabama Army National Guard in the 1151st Engineering Detachment out of Fort McClellan, Alabama. Harlan retired from his civilian job with Alabama Power Company after 35 years of service. Harlan was a graduate of Saks High School in Anniston, Alabama. Harlan never met a stranger. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved our country and prayed for and supported our military. He loved Alabama football and was usually seen wearing his crimson red. He enjoyed hard work and was a perfectionist in all he did. Above all, he loved his family. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Joan Baker Daughterty, three children, Misty (Wade) Silvey, R. Jon (Amy) Clough, Amanda (Adam) Stokes, grandchildren Blaike Butler (Karina Auten), Kayla Clough, Madison Butler (Tyler Burks), Colton Clough, Kambree (Jonathan) Layfield, and Pressley Slaton. He has a number of chosen grandchildren, Matthew (Stephanie) Bolton, Chad Bolton, Ashleigh (David) Ellis, Reagen (Brent) Culver , Casey Silvey, Blaine Stokes (Hannah), Baylon Stokes (Amber Watkins), and Brennan Stokes and great grandson Zeppelin Cash Layfield. Chosen great grandchildren Cash Culver and Houston Stokes, sister Linda (Arnold) Honaker, brother Johnny Milton (Barbara) Daugherty Jr., many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Johnny Milton Daugherty Sr. and Ethel L. Daugherty and his sister DeAnne (Lucien) Berrey. Pallbearers are Blaike Butler, Adam Stokes, Wade Silvey, Tyler Burks, Jonathan Layfield, Harlan Berrey, David Berrey and Burnie Berrey. Honorary Pallbearers are Sherman Conaway, Ronald Holiday, Harold O’Neal and Dr. Mohammad Ismail.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 12:00 PM. The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or any charity you choose that supports our United States Military.
