

Pete Barrett had a glorious homecoming with our Lord on May 29. His wife, Jill Barrett; daughters, Christi Hurley and Melissa Griffin; grandchildren, Caroline , Julia, Jack, Noel, and Mollie; and son- in- law Jonathan Hurley are remembering their loving husband, father, and G-Daddy in a funeral service at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla, AL. on Monday, June 5 at 1 pm with visitation from 11 am-1 pm.
Pete was born July 3, 1940 in Corpus Christi, TX and spent his childhood in Colombia, South America and South Texas. His parents were Lois and Owen Barrett, and his siblings are Sandra Barton, Patricia Pollard, and Bill and Mark Barrett. Pete served in the Navy in Kodiak, Alaska and earned a business degree from University of Texas and McNeese. He worked in oil exploration before establishing his own company, Southern Gulf Marine in 1976, becoming the 33rd fastest growing company in the U.S. according to Inc 500 Magazine. Pete traveled and worked in 46 countries, 5 continents, and the Tasman, North, Bering, Adriatic, Mediterranean, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, South Pacific, Norwegian, Caribbean, and Coral Seas and the Gulfs of Mexico and Alaska.
Pete was a dedicated Christian, instilling his love for Christ in his family and serving in lay mission work for 12 years with Bible Study Fellowship of Nashville, TN. He belonged to Meadowbrook Baptist and Southside Baptist Church. He worked and raised his loving family in Texas; Lafayette, LA; Columbia, TN; and Southside, AL.
Fly fishing was his recreational passion, and he fished regularly in Wyoming, Utah, and Canada. Pete was extremely devoted to family and friends, and we rejoice in knowing we will see him in Heaven. We love you, Dad! We love you- G. Daddy! We love you- Pete!
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
