

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 9th at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Gadsden. The service will start at 1pm followed by reception
Miss du Pont was born on August 10, 1945, in Attalla, Alabama. She graduated in the class of 1963 at Etowah High School, and then graduated with honors and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Alabama, majoring in English. She was employed with South Central Bell and AT&T for over 30 years in Gadsden, Birmingham, Parsippany, N.J., and Nashville, Tenn. She also worked or Service Merchandise as a Jewelry Manager and was program director of the OLLIE programs at University of Alabama in Gadsden. Shirley was affiliated with several senior citizens programs in Etowah County and could be seen on stage in various productions with Theatre of Gadsden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jo Nell du Pont Adcock and Carl F. du Pont, both of Attalla; Cousins, Jimmy du Pont, Somerset, Penna, Rick Hoover, Somerset, Penna.
She is survived by her brother, Mark du Pont of Jacksonville; and cousins, Jim Jolly of Tuscaloosa, and Sue Jolly of Foley, AL, Larry Ferrel, of Lewis, Del, Linda Sabatella, of St. Augustine, FL, Dave du Pont, Jim Hoover, from Somerset, Penna, Debbie Bryan, of Wilmington, Del, Jack Marker, Joe du Pont, Robbie du Pont, Diane Lee, Keith Hoover, Heather Pruett, all of Somerset, Penna.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, please give a memorial donation of your choice.
The family would like to extend the greatest appreciation for Riverview Hospital (Dr. James Robinson), Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga (Dr. Daniel Kueter), Gadsden Health and Rehab, Encompass Health and Rehab, the staff and residents of Paden Ridge in East Gadsden, and the Hospice of Chattanooga nurses and staff.
