Fairchild, went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Riverview Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama.
She was born May 12, 1945, in Gadsden, daughter of Frank Osborne and Sara (Watson) Bynum.
After graduation from Gadsden High School, Wanda took a secretarial position in Birmingham, where she met Walter. They were married July 10, 1964. Upon the birth of their daughter in 1965, Wanda devoted her life to homemaking and family. As her children grew, she was active as school PTA president, cheerleading sponsor, team mother, and all-around supporter of children who needed an extra mom. She excelled at cooking — especially her acclaimed chocolate chip cookies — needlework and all aspects of home life. She was a long-time member of Huffman Baptist Church in Birmingham, and later, First Baptist Church, Pinson.
Always conscientiously attentive to details, once her children were grown, Wanda started her own successful bookkeeping business, achieving many professional designations. However, family remained foremost in her heart. As Nana, she enthusiastically welcomed opportunities to pass along her cooking and needlework passions to her granddaughters and enjoy dolls with them. She also cherished being “Lou” or “Aunt Lou” to her mother, siblings, nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband of 56 years, her family legacy includes her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela (Fairchild) and Steve Traylor of Staunton, Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Barnett and Misti Fairchild of Honduras; a sister, Martha Gullion of Loganville, Georgia; and four granddaughters, Blake Fairchild, Sarah Lauren Traylor Williams (Stephen), Sydney Fairchild, and Mackenzie Kate Fairchild; and beloved extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wayne Osborne Bynum; her sister, Sara Jo Morris; and her grandson, Andrew Steven Traylor.
Family viewing at Morgan Chapel Funeral Home is Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 11:30-12:30. A public graveside service will follow at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in East Gadsden at 1 p.m., her son Jeff Fairchild and son-in-law Steve Traylor officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the Honduras Baptist Dental Mission.
Special thanks to Deborah Reiland.
