Reverend William Thomas (Tom) Holt, beloved husband, loving father, and devoted brother went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Rev. Holt served as an ordained elder within the United Methodist Church, North Alabama Conference. He was a kind, loving, God-fearing man who loved with all his heart and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He loved deeply, laughed easily, and whispered inappropriate jokes in restaurants too loudly. May he rest in eternal light, telling his stories to all who will listen. May we carry forward his legacy of warmth and grace to all we meet.
Tom received his Bachelor's Degree from Birmingham Southern College in 1973. He also earned his Master’s Degree in computer science from UAB and worked as a computer programmer for many years until answering the call to serve in the ministry. At that time, he earned his Master’s Degree in theology from Emory University and served as pastor to several United Methodist churches over the next 17 years.
Tom is preceded in death by his father, William Guyon (Guy) Holt and mother, Margaret Elizabeth Abercrombie Holt.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah B. Holt, daughter, Abigail Grace Holt, sisters, Mary (Bill) Williams and Sue Whitfield, stepchildren, Brandi M. (Chris) Tramel and Nicholas A. Whisenant, and several nephews, nieces, and step-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Brandon, Tonya, Tammy, Stacy, Suzanne, and all the staff of Encompass Hospice for their kind and loving care during Tom’s illness. It was a great comfort to all to have them with us during this time.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Geraldine First United Methodist Church in Geraldine, Alabama with Pastor Michael Burgess officiating.
