Alice passed away on Sunday, July 24 in a residential care home in Granite Bay at the age of 93. She was born in Winnemucca, Nevada, and moved with her family to Auburn at the age of two. Alice graduated from Placer Union High School and Placer Junior College.
Alice married Ralph Banderas and raised three children in Auburn. She taught special education children in Newcastle and was instrumental in developing the PRIDE Industries workshop in Auburn for special needs people. She was a major backer of the Association of Retarded Citizens and Placer County.
Alice was honored by the Auburn Journal in 1988 in its Auburn Centennial “Those Who Make Memories, 1888-1988”. She was considered one of the 100 people who were significant in influencing the Auburn community.
Alice lost her husband Ralph and son Rocky in 2005. Her sister Angele lives in Auburn. Her son Terry Banderas (Elaine) of Lincoln, California, and son Don Banderas (Bobbie) of San Dimas, California, survive Alice. Surviving grandchildren include Julie Banderas Bliesman, Derek Banderas and Jackie Banderas Middleton; great-grandchildren are Zachary and Jordan Bliesman, Noah Banderas, and Lucia Middleton.
The family will honor Alice at private services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to PRIDE Industries, 13080 Earhart Avenue, Auburn, California 95603. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills, Auburn, CA.
