Arnold Herman Boettcher of Auburn, CA passed away March 23, 2013 after a brief illness.  He was the son of Emma (Dreyer) and Herman Boettcher, born January 5, 1927 in Algona, Iowa. He was graduated from Windom (MN) High School, served in the Navy during World War II, and in 1950, was graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Physics.
His career with General Electric began in Syracuse, NY, Tacoma, WA and then Sacramento, CA, where he met and married Doris “Dodie” Dorothy Duerr on February 27, 1954. Immediately after, the newlyweds left for Casablanca, Morocco, where Arnold was in charge of the General Electric personnel in the Mediterranean region.  They enjoyed European travel in their free time while living there.
Returning to Syracuse, NY in 1957, they began raising a family of three daughters, moving next to Berwyn, PA.  Arnold spent one year on assignment on the Aleutian island of Shemya, and was subsequently transferred with his family to Burlington, VT, to manage VADS support .  He travelled regularly for work, often back to Morocco and to Saudi Arabia.   Arnold retired in 1987 after 37 years with General Electric and was a member of the GE Elfun Society.
Shortly after retirement, Arnold and Dodie moved to Auburn.  He joined Hope Lutheran Church of Penryn, where he felt right at home.  A son of Minnesota, Arnold enjoyed Garrison Keillor, Charles Schultz, classical music, was an unapologetic punster, and solved crossword and number puzzles.  
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dodie Boettcher, and their daughters Diane Boettcher, also of Auburn, Irene Boettcher and her husband Fred Burgess of Topsham, Maine, and Barbara Anderson and her husband Stewart Anderson of Winchester, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in his memory to Hope Lutheran Church of Penryn, CA.
