Doc and Mary were Ophir and all it stands for.  Family, hard work and  friends.  Doc was so generous and straight forward no nonsense.  His life is forever noted in the History of Ophir.  No one can replace Doc .  He was one of a kind The best kind.  My love to his family.  Barbara Van Riper

The Hansen family from long ago are sending our condolences. (Jack Hansen Girls, Sandra, Jackie, Carol, Dorothy, and Nancy) Mom would buy eggs from Doc at the farmers market. He'll be missed.

Danilo's mother came from Piaggione, 12 kilometers from the city of Lucca.Pia and Italo were "pisani" to my mom and dad, who visited them during the late 30's and through the 40's.  I still remember them, I was a child at the time, visiting their ranch and riding a gray horse.  Two weeks ago, on a one week vacation in Downyville, on the Yuba river, I mention to my wife about Danilo, wondering if he was still alive.  May God bless his soul, may he rest in peace, and may the perpetual light shine upon him and his family..  Alvaro Bettucchi, South San Francisco.

I visited Doc & Mary several years ago when I first moved to Auburn.  My parents always stopped at their ranch in Ophir when going to Tahoe or Reno so I had lots of memories of them & their kids as a child.  I took my mom on this visit and both Mary & Doc remembered my mom & dad, Albina & Roy Ghilardi (deceased) from South San Francisco.  I guess we were "shirt-tail" relatives. I always meant to go back to see them. So sorry to hear about Doc's passing and I wish Mary and her family well.  Carol Ghilardi Green, Auburn

Friday afternoon we would hear the pickup comming in our driveway, alwas the freshest eggs and who knew what else he would bring.  I remember when he talked about dateing Mary, how her apple pie and fried chicken won his hart, then the great Doc smile, what a gift. Doc made the world a kinder more loving place.  Thank you . Back in the 80's I worked at a restaurant in Old Town Auburn and he would deliver eggs regularly. I remember him and his sweet disposition. I love this picture of him driving his truck; this is how I remember him. Lovely man. Nicole Perusse Winter (Los Angeles, CA).

Doc's weekly visit with fresh eggs is one of my most treasured childhood memories.  He'd bring my mother an entire dozen of double-yolks or a basket of fresh peaches (her favorite fruit) for her birthday.  He was Ophir's guardian angel and friend to all.  I feel honored to have known him.  Heaven is a little brighter now that he is in it.

Treasure, indeed!  Ophir roads and households were his beatâ€”rom the driveway of he Santini Ranch on Chili Hill Road to our driveways.  "Dod's here," was a regular Friday late afternoon event.  He brought three dozen eggs every week, and we waited for those lugs of August peaches to eat and can.  His son David would sometimes be sitting beside him in the truck.   He set up at the Farmers Market in later years.  I can still see him in his suit as he and the other Ophir volunteer firemen showed up to put out a small fire in our fireplace chimney on the day of his father's funeral.  We were honored to know this man and his family, the salt of the earth and an icon of the Ophir District. Thanks, Doc, for your steady presence.

Our sympathy to Mary and the boys and all the family, who helped him "do the real work" of  serving his neighbors and living the good life.  Mass will be offered for Doc at St. Joseph's Church, Auburn.  Joyce Polansky and family
