Hazel was born on March 16, 1916 in Nixie, Missouri and passed away on February 7, 2011 in Roseville, California. She was a devoted wife to William Varley, who preceded her in death, and loving mother of Rod Varley. Very special grandmother to Blair Varley. Friend and mother to Mary Jane Perkins. Grandmother to Megan Ham, Stephanie Hills, Bryon Hills and Wendy Hills. Great-grandmother to Kayla Ham, Evan Ham, Breanne Hills and Michael Hills. Preceded in death by brothers Noel Cline, Lee Cline, Kenny Cline and Bobby Cline. Survived by sisters Helen Beams and Dee Peterson. Hazel was an active Licensed Vocational Nurse for over 50 years. Hazel moved from Missouri to Los Angeles, then to San Francisco and finally settled on a small ranch in Loomis in 1949. In 1983 she bought a piece of land in Foresthill and literally built a custom log cabin. She was a resident of Foresthill for 20 years. She then moved back to Loomis to live with her son, Rod Varley for the past seven years. Hazel was known fondly as "Grandma V". Hazel had many interests and lived a very full life with many accomplishments. She enjoyed square dancing, and camping with the grandkids in Yuba Gap. Owned 160 acres in Prince George, BC and travelled and stayed on many occasions there. She was accomplished in the arts of the accordion and the organ. She was an avid bird watcher. But on the sporty side she owned and drove two Datsun 28OZ sports cars and a newer Volkswagen Beetle (bright green). She was a Boy Scout den mother, and a loving mother to Suzy-Q, her smart and sassy Yorkshire Terrier. Hazel was a seamstress enjoying knitting and needlepoint. She even made a unique custom stained glass window for her Foresthill log cabin. She enjoyed and was very proud of her son, grandson, grand-children, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and many precious freinds. Hazel will be missed by all of us but never forgotten for her love and devotion to all her loved ones and friends. Memorial services will be at Chapel of the Hills 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn, at 1pm Friday, February 18, 2011. A reception will follow at Flower Farm Country Inn, 4150 Auburn Folsom Road, Loomis.
