Keith Guthrie, 81, died on the winter solstice, December 21st, 2020 at home in Auburn, California. A
memorial celebration will be held in late spring as COVID-19 will safely permit.
One of ten children, Keith was born in 1939 in Kansas to James David Guthrie & Willa (Ward) Guthrie.
Keith graduated in the top five of his high school class. He served in the Air Force, as radar operator in
Iceland, discharged in 1961. Shortly thereafter he made Southern California home working as a bridge
builder and carpenter.
In 1982 Keith and Cecelia Palmer fell in love, marrying in 1990. They decided to embark on a great
adventure, relocating to bare, unimproved property in Camptonville CA on the very edge of the Tahoe
National Forest, living in a small 35 foot trailer, with their two dogs, Kris and Moxie. Keith learned to fall
trees, Cecelia learned to bake pies.
Eventually life reared its head and they moved to Auburn California, where Keith again worked as a
bridge builder, pile butt and carpenter until retiring in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Cecelia, his daughters, Kimberly Guthrie, Lisa Maschmeyer, Klee Guthrie and
Kelsie Morris; brothers Larry, Mike and Gary Guthrie, sister Janice Reed and many, many friends. Keith
was famous for his wonderful warm hugs, his easy nature and the gentleness of his soul. He will be
greatly missed.
