Sadly, our dearest Michael died February 21, 2023 from very aggressive metastatic Prostate cancer. Our hearts are broken. He was strong and positive right up until the end and was surrounded by family during his final hours. He had suffered for many years from spine and respiratory issues but always remained optimistic despite chronic pain. He was 72 years old.
Michael is survived by Karen, his loving wife of over 35 years as well as sons Michael Willem, Sean Willem, and Mat Jackson, his sister, Diana Willem and his brother, Karl Willem. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends.
Michael’s dad was career Air Force which took the family all over the world. Still their home base was always the New Orleans/Baton Rouge area where he attended LSU. Michael was a great cook and loved to make gumbo and jambalaya just as his Mom taught him. He was also the original MacGyver. He could build and fix anything and had an incredible eye for seeing things differently than most people. His career as a Project Manager included building semiconductor fabrication buildings, hospitals, research facilities and even a Dolby Sound studio in Russia.
Michael’s sunny disposition and kindness will be missed forever by all who knew and loved him.
A small private wake for immediate family and close friends has already been held.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapeloftheHills-Auburn.com for the Willem family.
