In July of 1942, Lawrence (Larry) and Catherine (Kay) Goble were blessed by their first child together, a son they named Robert Lawrence Goble (Bob). They made their home in a small Pennsylvania town, and 5 years later, the couple was again blessed with a child, their last, a girl they named Catherine (Kay, although known now as Aunt Kay to many) Louise Goble.
In the mid 1950's, opportunity presented itself, and the family packed their belongings into their stylish 1955 Buick, the children sharing half of the back seat, and moved to California. Not a complaint was voiced by the angelic siblings, we are very sure!
After settling in Concord, California, Bob attended Mt. Diablo High School. In his senior year Bob met a young lady, Bev, who he briefly dated, alas she was in her freshman year and the age difference was just not acceptable. Many years later, Bev would reconnect with Bob after her husband passed, and although it was close, they didn't have the opportunity to date again, but the two would become close friends, and talked on the phone almost daily until Bob passed.
Bob was recruited to the Marine Corps in High School, and after graduating, he was off to boot camp. His Marine Corps experiences shaped his demeanor, and he traveled to different bases, including Hawaii.
Bob's four year commitment luckily ended just prior to the Vietnam war. He had met another woman, Alice Tickner, who became his wife. Shortly afterwards, in March of 1966, Bob's only child, a son they named Mark Allen, was born. Bob worked as a sign painter and enrolled in California State College at Hayward, studying accounting.
It was during this time Bob met Greg Kracke, who would become Bob's very best life long friend. Bob would describe Greg as close as he ever got to having a brother, and would rely on Greg for many, many things through the years. They enjoyed golf together, had many meaningful discussions and were the best of friends. Bob also was very close to Sue, and she was always very kind, patient, and helpful to Bob throughout the years. When instructing son Mark making a call to greg, Bob told him the best way was to "call Sue, and ask for Greg. Greg doesn't hear his damn phone."
When Bob's marriage to Alice ended in an ugly divorce in the early 1970's, it affected Bob deeply through the rest of his life and Bob's brief second marriage ended in annulment. Greg however had found a beautiful and amazing woman, his soulmate, Sue, who he wisely married. The three were great friends going forward.
Working with friend Greg, who was a contractor , building houses in the Bay Area supported Bob's alimony payments until graduation from college in the early 1970's. Bob next went to work for Winton Jones, Contractor/Concord Crane and Rigging Company in Concord, CA as a manager. The job required many hours, but Bob also was compensated well. He moved to Martinez with his third wife, Diane and son. During this career, as a job perk, it was decided Bob would return to school, this time Saint Mary's College in Moraga, CA to pursue a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
Time passed and the stresses took their toll. Always a spiritual being, Bob made a decision to end his employment with Winton James, in favor of a more noble and satisfying career. Bob enrolled in Life Chiropractic College in Hayward, California to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. Sadly at this time, Bob and Diane ended their marriage, and Bob and his son Mark moved in with Bob's parents at their Concord home. With money tight, Bob worked for his college friend Bob Stojanovich doing janitorial work at night, as he attended Chiropractic College during the day.
During his schooling at Life Chiropractic College, Bob met Doug Bell, Beverlee Scott and Bob Stojanovich, who became friends and colleagues over the years. After graduation, Bob made several tries at a Chiropractic practice, both working for established Chiropractors and venturing out on his own. As it would turn out, Dr. Bob would return to Life Chiropractic College as an Instructor, a position he held for many years. Well liked and popular with the students, Dr. Bob truly enjoyed teaching and was very committed to their education.
Politics and personalities eventually won out and Dr. Bob left the College before he could retire. Many personal changes over time, another marriage and divorce and a new relationship brought Dr. Bob to Auburn, CA and a venture building ponds. The relationship ended, and Dr. Bob returned to Chiropractic working part time for Auburn Chiropractic Dr. Greenlee, a position he would eventually retire from.
It was during this time, Dr. Bob met Patricia Morrone (Patti). He at first was (understandably) reluctant, but Patti pursued the issue and they began seeing one another. Relocating to Oregon, then back to Magalia, California and eventually Paradise, California, the two fell very deeply in love, and were very happy for several years, eventually marrying in Reno, Nevada.
The couple barely escaped the Camp fire, which destroyed the entire region, and melted everything they owned except the clothes they wore and the few items they grabbed as they ran from the fire. The devastating experience was very difficult mentally for both Bob and Patti, and physically for Patti, eventually becoming the factor in Patti's passing in November 2019.
Bob sold their replacement home in Phoenix, Oregon shortly thereafter and moved in with his sister Kay. Through the years, the siblings had maintained a close and loving relationship, and Kay (Kay See Loose was Bob's nickname for her) welcomed Bob when he came to stay. It was only to be a short stay while Bob found a new home in the Bay Area, closer to both his sister and son.
Covid hit about that time, and a "shelter in place" order kept Bob at sister Kay's home for much longer than planned, and the two angelic siblings once again experienced close quarters. We are once again sure a complaint was not to be heard!
After Patti's passing, Bob was both sad and deeply depressed. The time with his sister helped, but Bob seemed to lose his drive. He eventually bought a mobile home in Newcastle, near his best friends Greg and Sue. It was a nice and quiet place, but Bob would later describe it in his private writings as a prison. Bob's health began to decline after his J and J Covid shot, he suddenly needed full time oxygen, both rheumatoid arthritis and macular degeneration set in, and symptoms of congestive heart failure began to show up, within a year of the vaccine.
Bob passed away on December 18, 2022, at Sutter Hospital in Auburn, after succumbing to infection.
Dr. Bob's gentle demeanor, loyalty and his loving care, his daily phone calls with sister Kay and friend Bev, and near daily with son Mark, and friends Greg and Sue are dearly missed.
Sometimes grumpy, though not for long, Dr. Bob was my best friend. I am reeling from the loss of this great man. And that is what he was, a great man. Always strong and morally correct, I relied on him for so very much all through my life. He was my biggest fan, even when I was at my worst. The crater-like hole in my soul, in the space that he once occupied, is now just an empty, cold, dark void. I have lost the biggest support pillar in my house of cards. Lost and in a fog, it has taken over a month for me to write ths. I am sure I have missed telling of events and people, and if I have done so to you, please accept my heartfelt apologies. This is the best I could do.
Comfort is given in the knowledge Bob is with the ones he loved most, our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, his mother and father, and Patti.
Left here, surviving Bob's death are his sister Catherine Marini, nephew Christopher Marini and his wife Jennifer, grand-nephew Lucas Marini, son Mark Goble, and step sons Michael Verano and Raymond Morrone.
