Sara Lee Fortier

Sara Fortier passed away on June 18th, 2025 in Spokane, WA. She is survived by her son Craig, daughter in law Lisa, and three grandchildren, Marcus-15, Calvin-13, and Quincy-10, as well as sisters Jan and Lynne and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Gary, son Antony, and her parents Clifford & Edna Martenson.

Sara was born on January 10th, 1941, and was raised on a dairy farm in Long Prairie Minnesota. She moved to California and began a career in medical records, ultimately becoming a director at Washington Medical Center Hospital in Southern California. That is where she would meet the love of her life, Gary, and began 44 memorable years of marriage. After moving north, she held a similar position at Chapa-De Indian Health Center in Auburn, CA. She also volunteered for many years as a docent for the Placer County Museums. In 2010 she retired with Gary to Spokane WA to be closer to her family.

She was known for her strawberry jam, Christmas cookies, and a love for learning and exploring. Sara was a big Gonzaga basketball fan, but most of all she loved spending time with her three grandkids who called her “Nana”.
