He was a devoted employee for the Pacific Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years. He loved his job, and all the guys he worked with. Sheldon was a devoted father to his three children, Sheldon James Shanley Jr., (Jaime),
Micah Shanley (Lynn), Lisa Shanley Vallero (Ray). He cherished his role of Pop to his four grandkids, Cherie, Brandon, Skylar, and Allen. He took them on hikes and walks in the American River Canyon. His grandkids loved the adventures that Pop took them on. Sheldon had a great love of the outdoors, and animals, especially his dogs. He was truly a remarkable person with a kind spirit. He was always there for anyone who needed him. Through all of his life he always demonstrated what it was to be an extraordinary husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a caring and protective brother to his sister Coleen Morrill. Everyone who knew Sheldon, loved and respected him. We will all miss his beautiful smile and his vibrant laugh. He will be truly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his father, John Francis Shanley, mother, Hazel Blanche Cowan, and brother, Bernard Francis Shanley.
God saw you getting tired,
when a cure was not to be.
So he wrapped his arms around you, & whispered, "come to me"
You didn't deserve what you went through, so he gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain,
I could not wish you back to
suffer that again.
The viewing will be from 5 to 7pm on Tuesday, August 10th, in Auburn, at Chapel of the Hills. The funeral will be on Wednesday, August 11th, at 1pm, also at Chapel of the Hills.
